International  Microreaction Technology Conference (IMRET16)

 
The first International Microreaction Technology Conference (IMRET) was held in 1997, more than two decades ago. What developments in the microreactor field have taken place during this time? Most notably, our technology has become commercial - this is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement. Pharmaceutical manufacturing will be continuous(-flow) in 2026, and is already becoming increasingly so today. Honestly, who would have imagined this when the first community was formed in Frankfurt/Germany in ice-cold February 1997 and discussed this seemingly far too distant ‘mission-impossible’?
 
We all saw already at that time that our technology shares something pivotal, yet lacked imagination how chemistry within dimensions of a hair's diameter can be sufficient for a fully industrial production line. Much has happened since then ... pilot plants in Japan ... production plants and future factories in Europe and USA ... China entering the field and now microreactor suppliers opening their major manufacturing sites in China. Yes! Asia-Pacific was and is an early and creative adopter of the technology.


IMRET16 2022 will be held in Australia - the first time in the Southern Hemisphere. This global region has its own interests and needs: agriculture, renewable energy, resources, health and flow chemistry. Just recently, Australia has become a major player in Space Exploration, heading up to a leading position, and creating a new sense of enthusiasm much like the space programs in the 1950s and 60s. IMRET16 will continue to approach current challenges and new opportunities, including the ones mentioned above.


We look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne, Australia in November 2022, to share exciting science and the most recent technological developments, make new friends and visit a bustling city with rich and varied culture, excellent food and wine and beautiful natural surroundings.
